GET TO THE AIRPORT EARLYFor international flights, that means arriving three to four hours before departure. For domestic flights, you should plan on at least two hours in advance of departure. Lines can be long at the ticket counters, baggage check, and security. Take advantage of any frequent-flier status you have on the airline to check in using the preferred or first-class line.
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF CLUB MEMBERSHIPSIf you're a member of an airline club lounge, utilize the staff at the service desk. The staff at the lounge's service desk can help make any changes for you if there are flight delays. The staff can also go the extra mile for you if you are a member. Some paid credit cards include this access!
CONSIDER INCENTIVES TO TAKE A LATER FLIGHTIf you have time to spare, consider taking the airline up on travel credits in exchange for changing your flight. You could rack up some free trips for later in the year! Insist on cash credits rather than miles. Airline miles might be restrcting when booking future travel.

PREPARE FOR FLIGHT DELAYSIf you have to change planes to get to your destination, schedule a longer connection time. A crowded airport means it'll take you longer to get to you terminal and gate. Consider booking a nonstop flight, even though it may be more expensive. First flights of the day are less likely to experience delays.
BE FLEXIBLE AND PACK YOUR PATIENCETravel can be stressful... and there may be times when you're frustrated or angry. Taking it out on the people that work at the airport or airlines won't get you anywhere. If you keep your cool and show some empathy, you're much more likely to get some help from a sympathetic airline staff member.
